HLTAID014 Provide advanced first aid(AFA)

The unit applies to workers who may be required to provide, coordinate and manage a first aid response across a range of complex situations, including community and workplace settings.

We are currently collecting expressions of interest in this course. Due to the nature of the practical assessment, requiring multiple ‘casualties’, it is essential that we have 5 or more participants. On successful completion and verified USI your Statement of Attainment will be emailed to you, the evening after the course.

Qualification Validity

The qualification is valid for three (3) years from date of issue, however CPR requires refresher training every 12 months.

We have a minimum attendance of 5 people due to the nature of the practical assessments.

Entry Requirements

Participants should have previously achieved a first aid or advanced first aid certificate in the last 3 years before enrolling in Advanced First Aid, proof of this will be required. Participants should have sufficient English language and visual interpretation skills to successfully complete the training.

Participants will also be required to undertake practical training and assessments. This includes demonstrating CPR on a manikin (placed on the floor) for a period of two minutes. If you have a current injury poor mobility or please discuss this prior to enrolling.

Minimum Age

Enrolments for participants under of the age of 18 is not excepted for this course.

Requirements for Successful Completion

Participants are required to attend 100% of this first aid training, and successfully demonstrate competence in all assessment activities.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Requirements

Participants will need suitable LLN skills to complete the following tasks/skills:

  • Read information from a PowerPoint and whiteboard
  • Listen and understand verbal information by an English-speaking trainer
  • Complete written incident report forms in English
  • Read and answer a multiple-choice & short-written question paper
  • Listen to instructions of an Automated External Defibrillator where prompts are delivered in English and count to 30

  • legal, workplace and community considerations including:
